FOUNDER

RODRIGO GUTIERREZ

Corialent

12 years ago, Rodrigo decided that the Coca Colas of the world shouldn’t be the only ones who get to have all the fun in the advertising industry. He was sick of all the dull, corporate, navy blue and white B2B work out there. Business people are people too. Corialent specializes in B2B marketing that doesn’t suck. And they want to get the rest of the industry drinking that delicious KoolAid.

Diversity Training

Diversity training is all about welcoming new perspectives and embracing differences among workers to contribute positively to your company s continued growth. In order to increase awareness of diversity and cultural awareness is necessary to create a positive and happy work environment. In this article I will outline some of the benefits of diversity training.

The most obvious benefit is that you have a more diverse and tolerant workforce. It is now quite apparent that there are not enough people of different cultures in the businesses of today. In order to attract, and keep, a diverse workforce, you must ensure that they understand and accept diversity in their personal interactions. This is true across all industries. Through inclusion and diversity training, you will be able to build a culture that is truly multicultural and tolerant.

Another common benefit of an effective diversity training program is that you will be able to attract and retain exceptional employees. It is vital that your company offers a work environment that is supportive and accepting of diversity. Many employees have a hard time fitting in, or even accepting, companies that do not embrace diversity. By introducing them to a welcoming work culture, you will be increasing their chances of moving up through the ranks. Having an employee that seeing great success in another employee, and understands the value of having a multicultural work force, is far more valuable than simply having employees who are all the same type of person.

Besides creating an environment of acceptance, an effective diversity training program can also help develop a strong awareness of diversity issues. As it is common practice, companies try and introduce diversity as naturally as possible. However, in doing so, they unintentionally introduce unconscious biases into their workplace environment. These unconscious biases and lack of awareness of diversity lead to the negative reinforcement of certain behaviors within your workplace, such as increased verbal and physical abuse, less participation from your employees in meaningful ways, and a lower level of productivity.

A strong diversity training program will address these behaviors and will help employees overcome them head on. An inclusion workshop can go a long way towards addressing these issues. A comprehensive inclusion workshop will include an assessment of the current situation in your company, various forms of racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination, as well as how to create an inclusive work environment that is free of bias and exclusion. Most inclusion workshops also include guidelines for dealing with complaints of harassment.

Employees often bring up their own complaints when they feel that there has been a decline in workplace sensitivity. An inclusive culture begins with acceptance, and it extends to all aspects of your workplace. A diversity training program can help you understand your company's anti-discrimination and workplace sensitivity policies. You should also know what types of behavior are considered acceptable, and what type of discrimination you currently face. Knowing this information can help you to set a policy that will ensure that all of your employees feel comfortable and welcome in the workplace.

Most employees do not report any instances of harassment or discrimination because they do not realize that they are entitled to complaint. The majority of people affected by workplace sensitivity do not know that they have a right to complaint or that they can file a complaint. Most employees are too embarrassed or afraid to talk about anything that might be bothering them. By incorporating inclusion programs into your workplace sensitivity training program, you will empower your workforce. Your employees will know that they have a right to discuss any issues that might be going on, and that they can do so respectfully and in a confidential manner.

Employee diversity training programs have a long way to go. Unfortunately, many businesses still do not recognize the true scope of their problems. Companies must come to terms with the fact that not everything that happens in the workplace is based on color, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other minority criteria. Some biases are based on personality traits, while others may be based on behavior and habits. There are in fact different forms of bias, some of which are harmful and should be discouraged and prevented at all costs.
